WyeBot in Practice: From Individual Test Results to a Custom Troubleshooting Dashboard

Anyone who manages WLAN environments professionally knows the problem: the most interesting issues rarely occur while you happen to be on site. Intermittent disruptions, sporadic roaming problems, performance drops at certain times of day – this is exactly where WyeBot and its Wireless Intelligence Platform (WIP) come in.
What is WyeBot?
WyeBot combines on-site sensors with a cloud-based analytics platform. The sensors passively listen around the clock to what is actually happening over the air – vendor-agnostic and without touching the existing infrastructure. Simply plug the sensor into an Ethernet port and it starts learning the environment. In addition, active tests can be configured and run either on a schedule or manually.
The platform ships with a whole suite of network tests, including:
- Wireless and internet connectivity tests
- Application and performance tests
- DNS server tests
- Video conferencing tests
For us as a Wi-Fi service provider, this means: we see the environment from the perspective of the end devices – even when we are not on site.
The Cloud: Strong at Analyzing Individual Results
In the WyeBot cloud, individual test results can be analyzed beautifully in detail. Every test run is cleanly documented: when was the test run, against which target, with what result, and where did it fail? For a specific incident, you can quickly click your way to the root cause – including historical data on RF utilization, RSSI, interference, and client behavior.
For classic incident analysis, that's exactly what you need: a ticket comes in, you open the platform, look at the affected time frame, and in many cases find the root cause without setting foot outside the door.
Looking at It Over Time: This Is Where Scripts Come In
It gets really interesting, however, when you look not at a single incident but at how things develop over weeks and months. This is precisely where it pays off to tap into the platform with a script.
With a comparatively small script, test results can be collected automatically on a regular basis and turned into a custom dashboard – tailored to exactly the questions that matter for a particular site or customer:
- How has the success rate of the connectivity tests developed over the past few weeks?
- Are there patterns? Do failures always occur at the same time of day or on certain weekdays?
- Did the last configuration change measurably improve things – or make them worse?
Real-World Example: A Troubleshooting Dashboard for a Customer
For one of our customers, we implemented exactly that. The customer was struggling with recurring, hard-to-pin-down WLAN issues. The individual test results in the cloud were ideal for detailed analysis – but the question "Is it getting better or worse overall?" was difficult to answer from them.
Our script now continuously collects the results of the troubleshooting tests relevant to this customer and condenses them into a clear dashboard. At a glance, you can see:
- the trend of the test results over time,
- periods with a noticeable accumulation of failed attempts,
- and a direct before-and-after comparison following optimization measures.
The result: hard numbers instead of gut feeling. The customer can see in black and white that the situation has improved – and we spot early on when a new problem is starting to build up, before the first tickets come in.
DNS Dashboard
This dashboard documents the different DNS response times of the two DNS servers.

AP Test Dashboard
In this example, a sensor tests several access points on a regular basis. The data is collected over time and compared.

Microsoft Teams Dashboard
In addition, the MS Teams dashboard documents the voice/video KPIs of a real-time application.

Conclusion
With the Wireless Intelligence Platform, WyeBot provides an excellent foundation: passive 24/7 monitoring, automated tests, and a cloud where individual results can be analyzed in detail. But if you look at the bigger picture over time and combine it with small scripts, you get much more out of it – custom dashboards that answer exactly the questions that matter in each project.
